2024 four-star guard set to visit Tennessee basketball ahead of commitment
The transfer portal is closed, but that doesn't mean Rick Barnes and Tennessee basketball are done working. Tennessee is still trying to recruit a few targets from the portal to Knoxville, as Barnes and the Vols hope to round out their transfer portal class and 2024-25 roster.
Tennessee has earned three commits from transfer portal players this year, bringing Charlotte transfer forward Igor Milicic Jr, Ohio State transfer center Felix Okpara, and Hofstra transfer forward Darlinstone Dubar to Rocky Top.
Tennessee still has some scholarships available and is looking to fill at least one more over the next few days. Ben Hammond was originally committed to Rhode Island but recently decommitted and reopened his recruiting after the spring transfer portal window closed.
24/7 High School Sports reported Hammond's scheduled trip to Rocky Top and ranked him as a four-star guard and one of the best available, while 247Sports rated him as a three-star prospect.
The 5-foot-11 prospect from Virginia has also drawn interest from Providence, Virginia Tech, Iowa, Butler, and Penn State. He most recently visited Virginia Tech as he is considering staying in his home state for his college basketball career.
Tennessee's depth at point and shooting guard could be an issue if the Vols don't add at least one more incoming freshman or through the transfer portal. Given their recent success and opportunity to earn playing time early in his career, Tennessee could make a top destination for Hammond.
Hammond will visit Tennessee on Monday, May 6, as Tennessee looks to earn his commitment and bring in their fifth player in the 2024 recruiting class. The Vols only have one other high school commitment, from four-star guard Bishop Boswell out of North Carolina.
