What Does the Secondary Look Like?

Vols fans can throw out almost everything they remember from last year's defensive secondary, as every starter is no longer with the program due to the draft or the transfer portal. With that, only two positions seem to be on lockdown heading into camp, the outside corners: Jermod McCoy and Ricky Gibson III.

McCoy is a transfer from Oregon State who earned freshman all-American honors last season with the Beavers, recording 31 tackles, 2 INTs, and 7 PBUs. Gibson saw action as a freshman last season with the Vols, finishing with nine tackles, a tackle for loss, and a PBU. While those numbers aren't eye-popping, corners with low numbers sometimes mean they are shutting down their matchup.

The young, promising duo has a lot of potential, but the two safety positions and the STAR position are still up for grabs. Jourdan Thomas has a head start on the STAR position, but freshman Boo Carter is an incredible athlete and will be vying for snaps quickly.

The safety position will have the most competition, with Andre Turrentine, Christian Charles, Jakobe Thomas, and John Slaughter all looking to take a spot. Who emerges as the starters?
