Tennessee football has put together a few elite commits since the beginning of the summer. The Vols have earned the commitment from seven players over the past month and a half, with five being four-star athletes.

The Vols’ most recent commitment comes from four-star wide receiver Travis Smith Jr. 247Sports composite has Smith as the No. 149 player nationally, No. 16 receiver, and No. 15 player in Georgia. On3 Sports has Smith as the No. 59 player in the country, No. 10 receiver, and No. 8 player in Georgia.

The Atlanta, Georgia, standout chose the Vols over other SEC programs: Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and Arkansas.

Smith is trained by former NFL receiver Terrance Edwards, who has compared his skills and abilities on the field to former Tennessee Titans receiver and Atlanta Falcons star Julio Jones. According to Edwards, his height, speed, and ability to track the football make him the total package and a future star.

247Sports recruiting analyst Hudson Standish also writes highly of the blue-chip receiver. “Prototypical outside receiver build measuring around 6-foot-4, 200 pounds on multiple occasions with a plus wingspan,” .

“Has proven to be a matchup nightmare on the outside on Friday nights and combine settings against top-tier defensive backs as he can climb the ladder in contested catch scenarios or attack all areas of the field with an expanded route tree. Does not possess an elite top-end gear to separate from quicker defensive backs but has a knack for separating late while tracking the ball in the air.”

This is another huge addition for Tennessee’s 2025 class as the Vols jump to No. 11 on 247Sports class rankings and No. 13 with On3.

Smith also becomes the third receiver in the 2025 class, joining three-star Joachim Dodson out of Chattanooga and Radarious Jackson out of Memphis. This trio could be an elite group of receivers if all three stay together at Tennessee.

It has also received attention from five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr, who is also nearing a decision about his college future. The Vols have been in the mix with Sanders and are a top team on his list.
