Josh Dobbs is a walking highlight reel for the San Fransisco 49ers
Former Tennessee football quarterback Joshua Dobbs is beginning his fifth season in the NFL. He signed with the San Fransisco 49ers this offseason to join the fifth franchise of his young career.
The 49ers have an open quarterback battle behind starter Brock Purdy and Dobbs is looking to secure the QB2 spot on the depth chart ahead of the 2024 season.
Dobbs has performed well in both preseason showings, throwing for 299 total yards and two rushing touchdowns in the 49ers' first two preseason games. He showed off his legs on Sunday night in the Niners' second preseason game, proving he's more than capable of being the 49ers' backup quarterback.
He made a few highlight plays and rushed for a touchdown against the Saints. His athletic play-making ability set social media on fire, with 49ers and NFL fans recognizing Dobbs' performance.
That isn't Dobbs' only highlight from the night or preseason. This isn't the first time he has shown sparks of being a really good NFL quarterback. Last season, he had moments where he lit up defenses as the Vikings and Cardinals quarterback.
Dobbs is the leader in the clubhouse to secure the QB2 position with the 49ers as he continues to impress throughout the preseason. If he can continue to create highlight-worthy plays, he will be in a good spot to help the 49ers make the playoffs again this year if he's called upon.
The 49ers have one more preseason game before the NFL season officially kicks off, which means we get at least one more valuable Josh Dobbs appearance this year. The 49ers will face the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday at 10:00 PM CT to wrap up their preseason as Dobbs looks to earn the QB2 spot.
