Tennessee baseball flips with Kentucky in rankings

Tennessee baseball moves to No. 3 in the top 25 rankings after winning two out of three on the road against Kentucky. D1Baseball has the Vols jump one spot and Kentucky dropping one spot to No. 4 after the two powerhouses faced off over the weekend.

The Vols brought their bats, outscoring the Wildcats 27-18 en route to the series win. The SEC still holds down the top three spots, with Texas A&M still at No. 1 with a 35-5 record and Arkansas at No. 2 with a 34-6 record.

Kentucky still holds the upper hand in the SEC East standings after starting 14-1 in conference play. The Vols brought the deficit to three games as they improved to a 12-6 conference record compared to Kentucky's 15-3 SEC record.

After Kentucky beat Tennessee on Friday night, many national writers and websites were about ready to write off the Vols. D1Baseball called Kentucky an Omaha-caliber team and boasted everything Kentucky did right on Friday in their two-run win over the Vols. Tennessee answered and ran up the score against the Cats to win the series' final two games.

We also saw another insane performance by some Vols at the plate, as we've seen all season. This time, it was a full weekend performance by Christian Moore, who almost single-handily beat Kentucky in the rubber match on Sunday.

Moore also put his name back on top of Tennessee's all-time home runs list. Moore and Blake Burke have been battling for the top spot, and after four home runs in the series' final two games, Moore put his name back on top of the leaderboard over Burke.

Tennessee will have a midweek matchup against Western Carolina at Lindsey Nelson Stadium before welcoming a struggling Missouri team to LNS. The Vols will look to win their sixth-straight SEC series and try to cut into Kentucky's SEC East lead a little more with four weeks remaining in the regular season.
