Tennessee baseball hangs in top five after another SEC series win
This past weekend, Tennessee baseball brought the power to Auburn, Alabama, and ran up the score on the Tigers in two of their three matchups. The Vols improved to 26-6 over the weekend with a 7-5 conference record. They have also won three straight SEC series after losing the first SEC series of the season to Alabama.
The Vols lost the series opener but didn't hold their heads on Saturday or Sunday. Tennessee combined for 21 runs on Saturday and Sunday to Auburn's seven. The power they brought at the plate overwhelmed the Tigers and helped the Vols hold the No. 4 spot in the D1 Baseball rankings.
D1 Baseball also named Tennessee outfielder Christian Moore the player of the week. He had seven hits over the weekend, three home runs, and ten RBIs. Multiple Vols showed off their bats and power, but Moore consistently produced the entire weekend.
"In a three-game week made up of Tennessee’s series win over Auburn, Moore went 7-for-14 with three doubles, three home runs and 10 RBIs," D1 Baseball's Joe Healy wrote. "For the season, he is batting .352/.428/.752 with 11 doubles, 13 home runs and 29 RBIs. His performance over the weekend put his career home run total at 40, which is one behind Blake Burke, who is now the program’s all-time home run leader."
Tennessee is one of three SEC teams in the top five this week. Arkansas still holds the top spot, Clemson is at No. 2, Texas A&M sits at No. 3, and Oregon State rounds out the top five. The Vols won't see Arkansas or Texas A&M in the regular season this year but will have a weekend matchup against No. 6 Vanderbilt later this season.
Tennessee will look to continue its momentum in its midweek matchup against Alabama A&M on Tuesday before LSU comes to town for a three-game series. Here’s how you can watch every Tennessee baseball game this month.
