Tennessee baseball pitcher enters transfer portal

The college baseball season isn't over, but that won't prevent the NCAA from opening the transfer portal for college baseball players nationwide. As a result, Tennessee baseball has lost its first player to the portal ahead of Super Regionals. 

Pitcher Wyatt Evans entered the portal on Monday; the first-day college baseball players are eligible to enter the portal. He's been on Rocky Top for two years but isn't a name we heard throughout the 2023-24 baseball season. 

Evans didn't make the active roster this year after suffering numerous arm injuries in 2022. Before his injuries, he pitched a strong 16 innings pitched with a 2.25 ERA and 22 strikeouts as a freshman. Injuries prevented him from stepping on the field this year and playing an even bigger role for the Vols on the mound. 

It's not surprising that Evans entered the portal as a result. Given time to fully recover from his injuries, he will be looking to return stronger with another program. Evans's not being on Tennessee's active roster won't change anything about Tennessee's game plan for Evansville in the Super Regionals. 

Evansville defeated East Carolina 6-5 on Monday to win the Greenville Regional and make the trip to Knoxville this weekend for Super Regionals. The rest of the field will be set by the end of Monday, with all games being finished, and we will know when the Vols and Aces' first pitch will be this weekend. 

The college baseball transfer portal will remain open until Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Any player that intends to transfer, or at least test the portal waters, must enter their name in the portal by July 2 to be eligible to transfer to another school.
