Tennessee baseball rematch set with Florida State in College World Series Semifinal
Tennessee baseball has started the College World Series 2-0 with wins over Florida State and North Carolina. Those two teams played each other on Tuesday in an elimination game for a chance to play the Vols again. Florida State continued their hot hitting and won the elimination game 9-5.
The Vols and Noles put on a hitting barrage in their first matchup, and we can expect another high-scoring matchup when the two programs face again for a spot in the men's College World Series Finals.
If Tennessee wins the rematch, the Vols will be the first team to clinch its spot in the Finals. The Vols' showed off their power in their first game against Florida State and will look to do the same on Wednesday as they inch closer to LSU's home run record.
If Tennessee loses, they will be forced to play a winner-take-all game on Thursday. The winner will stay in Omaha for the final three-game series against the winner of Bracket 2.
Texas A&M is the only undefeated team in the bottom half of the bracket. Florida and Kentucky are scheduled to play an elimination game on Wednesday. The winner of that game will face Texas A&M for a spot in the CWS Finals.
The Vols are coming off two days of rest after their Sunday night win over North Carolina. Tennessee bats combined for 18 runs in their first two games, while Florida State totaled 27 runs in their three games to this point.
Tennessee and Florida State are scheduled to play at 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday on ESPN. That start time will stand as long as the weather doesn't interfere. Kentucky and Florida were initially slated to play their elimination game Tuesday night, but that game was postponed due to weather.
