Tennessee football commit George MacIntyre has lit up opponents over the last two seasons, earning five-star status by most recruiting outlets. In two seasons as Brentwood Academy's starting quarterback, He has thrown for 5,570 yards and 44 touchdowns.

MacIntyre was a five-star when he committed to Tennessee earlier this year, as he should be with those numbers as a sophomore and junior quarterback. He was ranked the No. 9 player and No. 2 quarterback in the 2025 class and considered a future superstar for the Vols.

Until June, the 6-foot-5, 190-pound quarterback was rated the No. 30 overall recruit. That's a big drop for a player in a sport that hasn't been played at the high school ranks since December.

You might ask yourself, why has MacIntyre dropped so much throughout the offseason? It's simple. MacIntyre's drop in the 2025 class rankings directly results from him not attending camps. Why should he, though? He's a committed five-star quarterback, so what more does he need to prove to the scouts?

Well, apparently, a lot, according to 247Sports, which has dropped him 60 spots and from a five-star to a four-star because he has not attended camps due to a hand injury.

247Sports now ranks the Brentwood, Tennessee native No. 69 overall and No. 8 quarterback. This is a direct result of not attending camps, not because of his performance on the field against real opponents.

On3 Sports has MacIntyre ranked even lower than 247. On3 has MacIntyre as a four-star, the No. 74 player, and the No. 8 quarterback in the class.

While camps are and should be, a valuable factor in rating recruits out of high school, they shouldn't be the be-all and end-all for any player. Football is played on a field, not in a camp or 7-on-7 tournament.

Despite the irrational drop in the 2025 class rankings, MacIntyre is still one of the best quarterbacks in the 2025 recruiting class and will prove that this fall when he leads Brentwood Academy for his senior season.
