Tennessee football has been improving year over year since Josh Heupel became the head coach in Knoxville. The Vols have won 20 games in the past two seasons and have a flurry of five-star quarterbacks working towards earning an opportunity to lead the Vols under center.

Despite the Vols' success, Tennessee isn't quite ready to compete with the top teams in the country on a yearly basis, but that could be changing. Heupel has been focused on building a roster with players who fit into his system and play at a high level, and we've seen that pay off already.

Tennessee looks to have the deepest roster in the Heupel era, and Rocky Top has high expectations for the Vols, led by redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava.

"We've got, without a doubt, the best, the deepest roster that we've had," Heupel said earlier in the summer. "We've had to navigate some really unique circumstances — we've never given ourselves an out. But we're at the best point that we've been, and it's not even close."

Pair Heupel's ability to recruit so far at Tennessee with the Vols' current depth, we could see a good run coming for the football team. The Vols will look to add another five-star commit to its 2025 recruiting class with offensive tackle David Sanders Jr. committing on Saturday, which would bolster the Vols' future class and depth even more.

The Vols coaching staff and players seem ready for the season, with only a couple of weeks remaining before Tennessee kicks off its 2024 football season against Chattanooga on August 31.
