Tennessee football is looking to get a head start on its 2027 recruiting class as it begins making scholarship offers to top recruits throughout America. One of those players is the son of a Tennessee football legend.
Cooper Witten, son of the Vols' tight end and NFL Hall of Famer Jason Witten, shared on X that he received a scholarship offer from Josh Heupel and the Vols as he began his sophomore season in Texas.
Jason is Cooper's head coach and four-star safety for Liberty Christian, out of Argyle, Texas, according to 247 Sports. He's currently the No. 25 player in the 2027 class, No. 2 safety, and No. 5 player in Texas.
Witten is a multi-sport athlete who plays basketball and runs track. He clocked 100-meter times of 11.03 and 11.06, which converts to about a 4.6-second 40-yard dash.
He did everything for Liberty Christian last season and recorded some great stats in his freshman season. He finished his first high school football season with 82 tackles, four tackles for loss, two interceptions (1 TD), two forced fumbles, and three blocked kicks.
The Witten family has had an exciting week. His brother, CJ, is a three-star linebacker in the 2025 class and verbally committed to Rice on August 21. He hasn't received any offers from Power Four programs coming into his senior season as the No. 106 linebacker in the country and No. 175 player in Texas.
While we're still a few years from Witten signing the dotted line to any school, you can't overlook the idea of one of the top-rated players in the 2027 class with the last name Witten committing and playing for the Vols.
