Tennessee football unveils new uniforms dedicated to the Volunteer State
Tennessee football has unveiled a new Smokey Grey uniform as a part of Nike's Smokey Grey Series with the Vols. The 2024 alternate uniforms are a dedication to the Volunteer State.
This is the third year of the Smokey Grey Series and the second unique Smokey Grey uniform since the Vols' initial design. Last season marked the first change in the Vols' alternate uniforms, with Tennessee donning a faux-back Smokey Grey uniform honoring the Condredge Holloway era.
The 2024 uniforms have been released, and Tennessee is honoring the Volunteer State with the new alternate uniforms. "TENNESSEE" is bold in orange across the chest, and the Tri-Star is on the shoulders.
The helmet also has a unique stripe honoring the Tennessee state flag. The helmet stripe is meant to represent the end of the Tennessee state flag, which has a small white stripe and a slightly larger blue stripe at the end of the mostly red flag.
The 2023 Smokey Grey uniforms were hotly debated about whether they looked good on the field. Dedicated to the Volunteer State and Tri-Star logo, the 2024 Smokey Grey uniform is simple yet full of character and the heart of Tennessee.
The newest uniforms in the Smokey Grey Series with Nike have already created a storm of hype around the new uniforms on Twitter/X. Fans are excited to rep the new uniform and merch and rock the new jersey in the upcoming EA Sports College Football 25 video game.
Tennessee will likely wear this uniform once in a home game this Fall. The Vols have worn their Smokey Grey uniform once a year over the last two seasons and are 2-0 under the new Smokey Grey initiative. Tennessee beat LSU in 2022 and Austin Peay in 2023, wearing the Smokey Grey uniforms.
The 2024 Smokey Grey uniform might be my favorite alternate Tennessee uniform the Vols have rocked since introducing grey and black alternates in recent years.
Tennessee will likely wear the new uniform at home. This Fall, the Vols will welcome Chattanooga, Kent State, Florida, Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi State, and UTEP to Neyland Stadium.
