What in the world is the conference thinking?

Expansion for the College Football Playoff is likely on the way and it's something that people need to brace for. This past season, 12 teams were featured, which a lot of people thought was the sweet spot. However, don't expect that to last too long.

Not only that, but we could see some major changes coming for the SEC too. As On3's Pete Nakos noted on Friday, conferences are looking to bring championship weekends with several games into our lives. How would this work? Nakos was kind enough to break things down for the SEC, which could see 3-4 games if this format is adopted.

With this, the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the SEC would face off for the conference title, but they'd also be IN for the CFP. In the other two games, the winners of those contests would also punch their tickets. This would give the SEC four automatic berths to the CFP:

Will the SEC feature a 'Championship Weekend' with multiple games down the road?

On one hand, this would be kind of fun. Could you imagine four teams battling it out for the final two SEC spots behind the programs that face off in the title showdown? At the same time, how many games are simply too much?

A quick look on social media shows that some people could not be more against this idea. We get it - having play-in games for the College Football Playoff doesn't make a ton of sense, especially since it will also put the players at extra risk of getting hurt. TV ratings would skyrocket, but that can't be among the main reasons this will end up happening.

Again, on one hand it looks like a lot of people think this would be a total joke, while others think it could be a lot of fun and make the season a bit more interesting. Conversely, we're a bit split here. The entertainment would be sky-high, but putting the players at risk like this feels like a stretch. Only time will tell if this gets signed off on or not.
