Tennessee basketball has one roster spot remaining after signing Louisiana Tech transfer guard Amaree Abram and French guard Clarence Massamba this week.
The Vols have 12 of the 13 roster spots filled for the 2025-26 season. Barnes joined Tennessee's women's basketball coach Kim Caldwell and football coach Josh Heupel in Memphis for Tennessee's Big Orange Caravan, where he was asked what his plans are for the final roster spot.
Barnes quickly noted that they really have three roster spots available, not just one, based on the house settlement changing the roster limit from 13 players to 15 players.
Despite the available roster spots, Barnes doesn't believe he will add any other players to the team unless the coaching staff believes they can add a player who can immediately help the Vols on both ends of the court.
"We'll, again, unless something just drops in that we think can help us, we wouldn't do anything with it. We feel good where we are right now," Barnes said. "Again with the portal being what it is, still a lot of guys out there.
"Again, like I said, we recruit year-round. If you go back to Santiago [Vescovi], we will always leave a spot because if you go back to Santi, he came in in the middle of the year. Because of cases like that, you always try to have one scholarship available because of situations like that."
Barnes and the coaching staff have done a good job balancing out the roster with guards and big men through traditional recruiting and in the transfer portal.
While it is possible Tennessee adds another player from the transfer portal to top off its roster, the Vols are unlikely to move on any of the players they are currently tied to in the portal.
