A tale as old as time in college football is fans debating which conference is best, and it usually comes down to the SEC and the Big Ten Conference. With recent national championship trends of Michigan, Ohio State, and Indiana, the SEC may have lost a bit of ground, but not so fast, as Lee Corso would say.

Panthers pick Chris Brazzell II already sparking doubt across NFL media

Like it or not, the SEC led all conferences with 36 selections in the first three rounds of the NFL Draft. Texas A&M led the way with seven picks, while the Georgia Bulldogs were close behind with six. Tennessee added to that total with two selections, as cornerback Colton Hood went to the New York Giants in the second round and wideout Chris Brazzell II went to the Carolina Panthers in the third. If Jermod McCoy had not slid so far, he likely would have added to that total, but he ultimately fell to the fourth round with the Las Vegas Raiders taking a chance on the star cornerback.

Tennessee Vols contribute to SEC's major NFL Draft success

All things considered, with the Vols having two top-three-round picks, they’ve been well represented in this draft. It’s been a successful draft overall for Tennessee, but Jermod McCoy’s fall obviously hurts, and you have to feel for the young man.

Looking ahead, between lineman Joshua Josephs, Bryson Eason, and tight end Miles Kitselman, Tennessee should still have some more Day 3 picks on the way. Quarterback Joey Aguilar could also be selected late in the draft, though that remains uncertain. It has been a good draft overall for the SEC and the Vols, but hopefully it can get a little bit better as the day progresses.
