Tennessee star wide receiver Squirrel White is expected to enter the transfer portal after three seasons at Tennessee. The loss would be devastating to Tennessee's wide receivers room as it would be the fourth receiver to enter the portal during this cycle.
On3 Sports' Pete Nakos broke the news on Friday afternoon and also indicated that the Pinson, Alabama native could be looking for a home closer to home. That immediately opens the door for Auburn or Alabama to be players in the former Vols receiver.
While the Vols have lost four receivers to the portal now, it opens the door for Boo Carter to return to Rocky Top with a new and improved role with Tennessee next year. It was reported that Carter was discussing playing offense with the coaching staff.
Carter wants to play both sides of the ball next year as he was promised, or he will entertain the transfer portal. It seems he has gotten his wish, White entered the portal as a result, and Carter is returning to Tennessee for the 2025 season.
This means Tennessee's receiving corps could be lethal next season with explosive potential through the roof. Projected starters as of right now could be: Chris Brazzell II, Mike Matthews, and Boo Carter.
Tennessee could also bring back Miles Kitselman next year after Diego Pavia's NCAA lawsuit granting extra eligibility for JUCO players. The door could also be open to Bru McCoy returning for one more season if he applies for a sixth season and is granted the extra year of eligibility by the NCAA.
They both add another dynamic to Tennessee's offense with Braylon Staley and Ethan Davis as possible backup targets for Nico and the offense.
Heupel will have to work the portal to add depth in the receiver room, but that's not a bad group as it stands right now, especially if Bru returns for one more year.
