Tennessee football adds its fourth in-state commit in the 2026 recruiting class as three-star safety Luke Thompson has announced his commitment to Tennessee.

He is a three-star athlete and ranked as a top-20 player in the Volunteer State. Josh Heupel and the Vols have added another big in-state commitment.

The Franklin, Tennessee, native and Franklin High School star finished his Junior season with 750 total yards and six touchdowns, with 68 tackles and three interceptions. That was good enough for Thompson to earn Athlete of the Year honors in Region 6-6A.

Thompson comes from a Tennessee family, and his family has played football, ran track, and cheered for Tennessee in the past. That likely played a big part in his decision, as he hopes to carry on the legacy on Rocky Top.

He also visited Tennessee on an official basis last weekend and enjoyed it, saying it was an awesome experience.

"It was an awesome experience," Thompson said. "It was very very detailed. We had everything lined up back to back to back to back. We did have a break and I loved the break just because I could chill a little bit. Some things I liked was going on a the lake. I didn’t expect that. I went tubing with some of the dudes that I might be playing with."

He also shared that Tennessee is impressed with his speed and physicality. On his X profile, he boasts a top speed of 21 mph in-game, which impressively matches his 4.41 40-yard dash time.

"They like my speed and my ability to hit," Thompson said. "They had meetings and wanted to me to know some plays like the basic stuff as a safety and stuff. One thing they want me to work on is my back pedal and just a bunch of basic DB drills."

Thompson joins fellow Volunteer State commits four-star wide receiver Tyreek King, four-star EDGE Zach Groves, and four-star tight end Carson Sneed.
