"Tennessee is going to the Elite Eight," claimed CBS Sports' Seth Davis when Tennessee's draw in the Midwest Region was revealed on Sunday night's March Madness Selection Show.
The Vols are the 2-seed in the Midwest and the No. 5 overall team in the bracket, which was the best-case scenario for them coming into Sunday based on Joe Lunardi's bracketology.
While the Midwest didn't shake out exactly how the Vols were hoping, Tennessee still has a fantastic draw for this year's tournament.
Tennessee will join 1-seed Houston in the Midwest Region. Other notable teams in the region are No. 8 Gonzaga, No. 12 McNeese, and No. 4 Purdue in the top half of the bracket. No. 6 Illinois, No. 3 Kentucky, No. 7 UCLA, and No. 10 Utah State join Tennessee in the bottom half of the bracket.
Tennessee's first-round matchup is against 15-seed Wofford. The Terriers were a 6-seed in the SoCon Tournament and upset No. 3 East Tennessee State and No. 5 Furman on their way to winning their conference tournament and earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
The Vols will face the winner of UCLA and Utah State in the second round of the tournament. Utah State won 26 games this year and could make a popular upset pick and potential Cinderella in this year's tournament.
If Tennessee advances to the second weekend of the tournament, the Vols could see a familiar face in Indianapolis, Indiana, for the Sweet Sixteen and possibly even the Elite Eight.
The Vols are familiar with Kentucky and Illinois, who are Tennessee's likely opponents in the Sweet Sixteen. They met both teams this season and saw mixed results.
The Vols lost both matchups against Kentucky this season, setting up the perfect revenge spot for Tennessee if they meet in the Sweet Sixteen.
Illinois wasn't so lucky in their early season matchup against Tennessee. The Vols went on the road and beat the Illini 66-64 on their way to its best start in program history.
The start of Tennessee's first-round game has not been announced yet, but they will play on Thursday, with the second-round game being played on Saturday.
