Tennessee follows 5-star David Gabriel Georges win with new in-state RB commit

When it comes to recruiting, it looks like there's no slowing down Tennessee and Josh Heupel. After just recently landing 5-star running back David Gabriel Georges, Heupel has once again loaded up at the position, as fellow RB Asa Barnes has shut down his recruitment. That's right, the speedster has announced that he'll be playing his college ball for the Vols.

While Barnes may not have the same kind of recognition as Georges, don't think even for a second that this isn't a strong get for UT. Barnes, a 5-11, 200-pounder, picked up more than 20 offers throughout his recruitment. On top of that, he's a stud for Westview High in Martin, meaning it's another in-state get for Heupel and Co.

In addition to Tennessee, Barnes also picked up offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida State, Ohio State, USC. Virginia Tech, and many other programs this cycle. He took his official visit with the Vols on June 19, with Heupel and his staff rolling out the red carpet for the youngster. Barnes also took a visit to Arkansas, with the Razorbacks hoping to get him to leave his home state.

That's not going to end up happening, with Barnes realizing that he wants to suit up in the SEC for the Vols. According to the 247Sports Composite, the newest Tennessee pledge is ranked three stars, the No. 36 RB in the country, and the No. 551 prospect nationally - he's also the No. 22 playmaker out of Tennessee for the '27 group.

With Barnes now on board, the Vols hold 19 commitments for the 2027 class, with it currently being ranked No. 24 in the nation. Barnes is the second running back with a seat at the table too, joining Georges as the future ballcarriers for Tennessee.

Plenty of Vols fans are still jacked up over the Georges win, as things came down to a battle between Ohio State and Tennessee. In the end, the Vols put a three-year, $6 million offer on the table for the 5-star running back, which helped get things over the line. Georges is one of the top players in the country, and he's going to be a stud for the program.

With that said, don't sleep on Barnes' ability to be an impact player for the Vols down the road, too. He may not have five stars next to his name, but Barnes is coming off a monster junior year in which he carried the ball 146 times for 1,207 yards and 25 touchdowns, while adding 567 receiving yards and seven more scores. He's the real deal, and Barnes will be ready to turn plenty of heads once he makes the move to the Tennessee campus, too.
