The Tennessee Vols football team has had a busy few weeks. Signing day, bowl game prep, NFL Draft announcements and plenty more has kept the fans and coaching staff busy.
Quarterback Joey Aguilar is still expected to leave after the season, as we still don't have any update on whether he will be granted an extra season of eligibility. The good news for Vols fans is that their replacement for Aguilar could enter the transfer portal in January.
On3's Hayes Fawcett has reported that All-Conference Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby intends to enter the transfer portal.

This news gets even juicier when you see what Sorsby had to say about Tennessee at Big 12 Media Days last summer. Sorsby said his dream opponent would be Tennessee, and that he loved the atmosphere at Neyland Stadium growing up.
Cincinnati transfer quarterback Brendan Sorsby was asked by Greg McElroy at Big 12 Media Days about his dream opponent to play:

“I’d say Tennessee” Sorsby said.
“Got to go to a couple of games growing up. Really cool atmosphere. That would be a fun place to play, for sure.… https://t.co/evAgC2NkqW
Brendan Sorsby could be the perfect fit for Tennessee
Assuming Joey Aguilar is done for the Vols, Sorsby might be the perfect fit as a one-year fill-in quarterback. Right now, Jake Merklinger and George McIntyre are on the roster, but both quarterbacks are still very young and inexperienced. Tennessee also brings in the number two quarterback in the 2026 class, 5-star Faizon Brandon, but will Josh Heupel really want to start a true freshman day one?
If it's not the star freshman Brandon, do we really think Heupel has seen enough from Merklinger or McIntyre to hand off the keys to them? That's why Sorsby could be perfect. He will give all three young guys one more year to develop while also being a win-now option.
Brendan Sorsby started out his career at Indiana, where he put up 1,587 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions in 2023. He then moved on from the Hoosiers and found himself as a Cincinnati Bearcat in 2024. In his two years at Cincinnati, he put up 5,613 yards, 45 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. In 2025, Sorsby was a Second Team All-Big 12 selection.
Not only does Sorsby have the talent on the field, but he sure seems to love Knoxville and the rocking atmosphere of a Neyland Stadium Saturday. When the portal opens up in January, Heupel needs to make the call.
