He's the right man for the job. Time and time again, Tennessee football head coach Josh Heupel has proven that he's getting the Vols back to where they belong. This was proven last season with the team making the College Football Playoff for the first time ever.
Fast forward to present time and there are once again high expectations for the Vols. Athletic Director Danny White knows this, which is why he wants to make sure Heupel doesn't doubt for a second the university has its full trust in him before Week 1 arrives vs. Syracuse. They've done so in the best way, giving him a new deal that runs through 2030:

Tennessee announced a deserved contract extension for Josh Heupel
"The revival of our football program under Josh's leadership has made everyone in Big Orange Country proud to be a Vol," AD Danny White said in a statement. "Josh has brought Tennessee football back to its rightful place among the nation's elite programs, and he and his staff have fostered a positive culture within the team. Our commitment to supporting Josh and his staff remains strong and unwavering."
It's hard to ignore what Heupel has been able to get done since he took over a troubled Vols program. In his four seasons at the helm, Tennessee has won an impressive 37 games, including 10 in 2024. In his four years on campus running the show, Heupel has two 10-win seasons to his name.
That's pretty darn solid and he'll pushing for a third 10-win campaign in '25. There are a lot of unknowns for this team entering this new season, but Vols fans are quite confident in Heupel riding the waves and preventing the program from taking a big step backwards now that Nico Iamaleava has left for UCLA. Will he be able to help Joey Aguilar post a strong fall? We think so.
This week, Paul Finebaum tossed some shade at Heupel and the Vols, but he's surely eating some shut-it stew right about now. Originally, Heupel's deal was supposed to run through 2027, but White and Tennessee have trigged one-year extensions over the past three years. With the way things are currently set, people can enjoy Heupel in town for at least five more seasons, which is great news for everyone involved.
