Tennessee football misses College Football Playoff in On3's prediction
Tennessee football is one of the top teams in the country and continues to play for a spot in the College Football Playoff after beating Alabama. Despite their success up to this point in the season, On3 Sports' Andy Staples has the Vols on the outside looking in.
Texas A&M and Notre Dame had big wins over the weekend against ranked opponents, helping them jump Tennessee in the Playoff rankings. Indiana also found a spot in the Playoff as they remain undefeated, forcing Tennessee out of the 12-team College Football Playoff.
Based on Staples ' prediction, Tennessee is the first team out. The Vols join Iowa State, Alabama, and Pittsburgh as the first four teams out of the Playoff. Tennessee would likely play one of those four teams in a bowl game or one of the top remaining Group of Five teams that miss the CFP.
It looks like Tennessee's loss to Arkansas could cost them Playoff seeding. If Tennessee also loses to Georgia, it will have two losses on the year, and it could eliminate them from Playoff contention for the same reason Alabama is outside the top 12.
While it's likely the Playoff won't end with Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, and Notre Dame all in the top 12, it is a possibility that Tennessee fans could have to reason with come December. Indiana still has to play Ohio State, and Ohio State plays Penn State, so there could be plenty more shakeup in the Big Ten.
Tennessee will have to prove it deserves a spot in the Playoffs if it wants a bid in the top 12. That starts with Kentucky coming to town this Saturday at 6:45 PM ET on SEC Network.
