Tennessee football's Dylan Sampson is having a record year
We are halfway through the college football season, but Tennessee running back Dylan Sampson is closing in on multiple program records in the middle of October.
Sampson has 699 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns halfway into the season. He is three rushing touchdowns away from tying Tennessee's single-season record. He's also 11 touchdowns away from tying Tennessee's all-time touchdown record at 28.
If that doesn't impress you, his 699 rushing yards get him almost halfway to Tennessee's single-season rushing yards record. Sampson would need to reach 1,464 yards to tie that record, which could happen if he continues to dominate through the second half of the season.
He has proven to be one of the best running backs in the SEC. While everyone is talking about redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava, Sampson is chugging away and proving to be one of the most valuable players on Tennessee's roster this year.
Sampson is only a Junior, but he could hold multiple Tennessee records by the time the 2024 season ends. If he decides to stay for his Senior season, he could even become a bigger impact player for the Vols and etch his name into Tennessee's all-time record book.
He has rushed for at least 100 yards in every game this season except for Oklahoma, where he rushed for 92 yards. Nico and the offense have consistent back rushing for 100+ yards every game, which gives the young quarterback a struggling offensive line to fix the issues they've faced so far in the season and remain contenders for the SEC Championship.
Tennessee and Oklahoma will face their biggest test yet this weekend. Venables makes the trip back to Rocky Top for the Third Saturday in October. The Vols and Tide are scheduled to kick off at 3:30 PM ET on ABC.
