Tennessee has already seen three players announce they’ll be entering the Transfer Portal today, and with a fourth likely on the way, it’s shaping up to be a mass exodus for the Vols men’s basketball team.

3 Transfer Portal targets Tennessee must be aggressive in landing

The news hasn't stopped as Tennessee forward Jaylen Carey has decided that he will enter the portal when it opens on Tuesday. The 6-foot-8, 267-pound junior forward averaged 7.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists, shooting 48.7% from the field.

In my opinion, after JP Estrella left, keeping Carey around had to be the number one priority for Barnes, but it looks like that will not happen. Carey is now going to be at his fourth school in four seasons after Tennesse picked him up from Vanderbilt, and he spent his freshman year at James Madison. I thought Carey would've been a huge piece of the team, especially serasopn on the hardwood, but apparently he wants out.

Barnes needs to be aggressive moving forward

With Tennessee now losing nearly everyone who contributed last year, aside from Ament, who hasn’t decided yet, and DeWayne Brown, the Vols are saying goodbye to the bulk of their Elite Eight team from this past season.

Rick Barnes has landed Tyler Lundblade out of the portal, but that has to be just the start. The Vols need multiple big bodies down low, and they have to add some more scorers. All of which have to be able to defend and rebound like Barnes wants.

I’m not saying a Final Four is impossible; Michigan has done it with all transfers, but Tennessee will need to land some high-level targets. Otherwise, next season could be a long one on the hardwood.

The good news is that Barnes likely understands this and will do whatever he can to bring a Final Four to Knoxville.
