Let's go! Tennessee is back in the recruiting win column after picking up a commitment from class of 2027 three-star athlete Jaden Butler. From Brownsville, Tennessee, Butler is the third commitment for the Vols that is from Tennessee, a place Josh Heupel has made a priority during his time in Knoxville.
Butler has the ability to play offense and defense at the next level, but if I had to bet, I would say Butler will likely start out on defense as a safety for the Vols. This is fluid, though, as Butler could very well be an offensive weapon for Tennesse down the road.
Josh Heupel beat out some really good schools to top the talented in-state target. Vanderbilt, Indiana, and Missouri were all in the mix, so you can never complain about that. The Vols stole one from their biggest rival, and they beat out the defending national champions for a target. It's a win-win for Josh Heupel, as

Jaden Butler is a two-way star
At 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, I love the ability that shows up from offense to defense. He can track balls when playing as a safety, something that stems from his prolific offensive experience. He's also not afraid to get gritty as a tackler in the run game, something needed to fit into Jim Knowles' defense. He will finish his high school career as a four-year standout. When he was a freshman at Haywood High School, Burtler tallied two interceptions and eight passes defended. These are some remarkably good numbers for a 14-year-old playing 17 and 18-year-olds.
With the addition of Butler, he now becomes the fifth commitment of the 2027 class for Tennessee, along with offensive lineman Princeton Uwaifo, defensive lineman Kadin Fife, linebacker JP Peace, and quarterback Derrick Baker. Josh Heupel hopefully can build on the momentum of this and potentially get another dominant or two to fall. The coaching staff has been aggressive all spring, getting high-level players on campus, so it's nice to see the ball go through the hoop with a commitment. Let's see if they can build on this with even more talent.
