Tennessee football doesn't move up in the updated College Football Playoff rankings despite a big conference win over Mississippi State. The Vols stayed at No. 7 but would be the No. 8 seed if the Playoff started today due to the new CFP format.

The Vols jumped to No. 6 in the AP Poll this week but will not have much luxury in advancing up the rankings unless they beat Georgia and make a trip to the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta.

Tennessee didn't move up in the rankings because two undefeated teams jumped the Vols. Indiana and BYU moved ahead of Tennessee in the rankings. Indiana is on a cinderella run in the Big Ten, and BYU is now the projected Big 12 Champion after starting the season 9-0.

The CFP committee still has Texas as the projected SEC Champion, taking the first-round bye and the No. 2 seed in the updated rankings.

Expect the Vols to bring some extra juice against Georgia this Saturday with the opportunity to eliminate Georgia from playoff contention. Georgia came in at No. 12 overall and the No. 13 seed in the CFP rankings.

As a result, another loss will likely end Georgia's hopes of making the 12-team playoffs, while Tennessee virtually confirms its spot in the postseason tournament.

Tennessee and Georgia kick off at 7:30 PM ET on ABC in another big primetime matchup for the Vols. Tennessee's lone loss on the season came on the road in a night game on ABC. The Vols will look to flip the narrative as they look to earn their second primetime road win of the season.
