Josh Heupel from the top rope! Tennessee has made a much-needed offensive tackle addition. The 2027 class may not have been as strong as some Vols fans would like, but fortunately for Tennessee fans, it has just gotten much better today.
Ranking the best recruit from every Tennessee class under Josh Heupel
The Vols have secured four-star tackle Niko Kampas, choosing Tennessee over Michigan, Vanderbilt, and Auburn. Currently, 247Sports ranks the 6-foot-7, 294-pound tackle as the No. 226 player in the 2027 class. This is a significant achievement for Tennessee, as they have solidified their offensive line for 2027. With Kampas, Princeton Uwaifo, and Q'Mari Hudson all committed, they now have three four-star recruits in the class. The future of the trenches looks very bright, especially with Gabriel Osenda and Kamari Blair also in the mix. Tennessee is building real talent on the offensive line, and it's great to see.

Niko Kampas has a very high ceiling for the Vols
Kamaps, who is Greek but from Germany, is coming through the NFL Academy, which has served Tennessee well over the last few years with the Vols landing a ton of recruits from this program. Kamaps is relatively new to American football, as he is a former volleyball player, but his athleticism, especially for a nearly 300-pound offensive lineman, is impressive. He is light on his feet and demonstrates good technique in his kickouts while pass-protecting. He does a great job utilizing his length and consistently puts in the effort to punch opposing edge rushers effectively before they can make a move.
While Kampas still has a long way to go in his development, he definitely has one of the highest ceilings on the Tennessee roster. Vols fans should be thrilled that Josh Heupel is building the trenches with high-ceiling talent.
Perhaps what sold Kampas on Tennessee was the development plan that offensive line coach Glen Elarbee had for him. Kampas told 247Sports:
"I wanted to be at a place kind of where football matters and you get all the academic support you can get and all the football support you can get. And from all the schools, I asked them, 'How are you going to develop me? What's your plan?' Coach Elarbee and Tennessee just had the most precise plan with a time schedule throughout the year, which I really liked."
This is something that is very important. The workout plan that Tennessee has for their future prospects is resonating with some big-time recruits. If we have learned anything over the years about how to develop talent, it is probably the biggest factor when it comes to recruiting blue-chip prospects.
With the addition of Kampas, the Tennessee recruiting class now sits at No. 37 in the nation with 17 commits. While on paper it may not be the best class we've ever seen come to Knoxville, there are still some very good pieces to be excited about. Now, Heupel needs to add the crown jewel of the class, five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, and Tennessee fans will be thrilled.
