While the Tennessee Vols football team is gearing up for a run in the College Football Playoff, this is also the time of year where head coach Josh Heupel is going to end up losing some players. It happens every season whenever the transfer portal is set to open.
While Heupel and Co. are expected to retain the majority of their players, we know that second-year offensive lineman Vysen Lang won't be back in Knoxville in 2025. On Tuesday, the 6-4, 335-pounder took to social media to announce that he'll be officially entering the transfer portal when things open up.
It looks like Lang is going to be going elsewhere in search of more playing time. A big-bodied center, he appeared in four games as a true freshman last season, still being able to redshirt. This campaign, he was buried on the depth chart behind standout center Cooper Mays and William Satterwhite.
Tennessee Vols OL Lysen Vang will enter the transfer portal
While Tennessee will be losing multiple linemen after this season due to graduation, it just didn't seem like Lang was going to be in a good spot moving forward to land significant action on the field. Because of that, he's moving on.
Coming out of high school in 2023, Lang was ranked three stars and the No. 48 interior offensive lineman according to 247Sports. He picked up well over 20 offers throughout his recruitment, choosing Tennessee over Auburn, Arkansas, Florida State, LSU and many others.
When Lang first got to town, it looked like he was going to be a key difference maker up front for Heupel, but that didn't turn out to be the case. Lang is the first known player for Tennessee who plans to transfer, though more names should be added to the list over the next week or so.
