Remember in February when the Nebraska Cornhuskers put the Tennessee Vols and Danny White in a bit of a tough spot? Sure you do. Originally, a home-and-home series was on the way between the two historic programs, with dances on the schedule in 2026 and 2027.
However, Nebraska stunningly decided to pull out of that agreement, which understandably infuriated White and Vols fans everywhere. Since then, the Tennessee AD has been on the hunt for a replacement for those two fixtures. The good news is White has been able to get things done, as it was just announced that Tennessee will be taking on Georgia Tech in 2026 and 2027, respectively:

Tennessee football has announced a new home-and-home series with Georgia Tech
"After Nebraska canceled the series, our main focus was to secure another home-and-home matchup with an opponent from a Power Four conference, which seemed improbable at the time," White said via the school website. "I sincerely appreciate Athletic Director J Batt's creativity in modifying Georgia Tech's schedule to make this series possible. We look forward to seeing plenty of orange in Atlanta in 2026!"
As White noted, the Vols will be traveling to Atlanta next year, while Georgia Tech will be heading to Knoxville in 2027. When Nebraska canceled, it seemed like it would take a miracle for White to find a Power 4 replacement. He's done just that, as two showdowns with Georgia Tech should have plenty of people excited.
Are people still upset with the Cornhuskers and AD Troy Dannen for how he handled the situation? Sure, and that anger isn't going to go anywhere for a long time. With that said, people can now look forward to a road game in Atlanta come '26 and White is confident plenty of Vols fans will pack their bags and make this new trip.
While people can't wait to see what Nico Iamaleava and the Vols can get done in 2025, knowing Georgia Tech is now on the schedule for 2026 and 2027 provides plenty of relief. Nebraska presented the Vols with a major setback, but White has once again proven why he's so darn good at his job.
