What a night it's been. Tennessee knocked off Iowa State in the Sweet 16 on the back of their freshmen star Nate Ament and veteran point guard Ja'kobi Gillespie.

After the game, Ament was offered the postgame interview live after the game, and he most certainly delivered.

When Nate Ament was asked by Evan Washburn about his comfort level on the big stage, Nate Ament said, "I think it was just my teammates believing in me, um, they make my job so much easier when they believe in me. My confidence is their confidence."

Washburn followed that with Tennessee's dominant performance on the glass, where the Vols topped Iowa State by 21, and Ament responded with, "We just never let up. Doing what we do every day in practice and having it translate to the game. We're gonna be who we are no matter the opponent."

That toughness and grit got the Vols one step away from the Final Four. Washburn ended it by asking Ament why this team is the one that will get Rick Barnes to the Final Four. Ament said:

"I just think we want it. We want it so bad, and it's never been done in Tennessee's history. We're gonna fight our tails off to get it done for them."

The interview ended with Ja'Kobi Gillespie dropping a "Let's go get em!" and the Vols had a bunch of laughs as they threw a bunch of towels all over. What a moment for this group of players.

Nate Ament stepped up tonight

The first weekend was far from the best we’ve seen from Nate Ament. He was pulled from the Miami (OH) game after a scoreless 18 minutes due to an ankle issue, and while he was solid against Virginia, he didn’t quite look like his usual star self. But tonight? A completely different story.

Ament came out and led the Vols in scoring, and when they needed him most, he delivered. Despite the foul trouble, Ament scored a team-high 18 points on 6-10 from the floor. Ament also drained three three-pointers on four attempts and added two blocks and a steal.

The young star delivered a complete performance, and Tennessee will be counting on Nate Ament to rise to the moment once again on Sunday afternoon.
