The Vols got off to a slow start against Vanderbilt on Saturday but quickly overcame a 14-point deficit in the first five minutes of the game. The Vols then finished off the Commodores with a dominant 36-23 win.

Based on the score, it doesn't seem like the Vols were dominant throughout Saturday's game, but the score doesn't tell the whole story. If you erase Vandy's 14 points, which they scored with the opening kickoff for a touchdown and touchdown after a Tennessee fumble, the Vols outscored Vandy 36-9 in the final 55 minutes of the game.

Part of the dominance was the defense's ability to settle in despite the two-ton deficit and shut down Vanderbilt's offense. Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia has been a big reason for Vandy's success on offense, but he couldn't do anything on Saturday.

The Tennessee secondary and pass rush came together to limit Pavia to only 104 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. That interception came at the hands of Jermod McCoy, and it was the best catch of the day and maybe the entire college football season.

Tennessee shared an alternate angle of the interception on X, and it's safe to say McCoy has proven to be one of the best corners we've had on Rocky Top in a very long time.

McCoy wasn't shy about the incredible interception in his post-game press conference. He made it clear that the interception wasn't luck but pure skill from the talented corner.

"Ball was in the air. If it's in the air, it's mine."

McCoy has been the best player in the Vols secondary all season. He made a clutch interception and took away a touchdown against Alabama against Bama phenom Ryan Williams in another big play that likely was the difference in the final score of that game.

Tennessee improves to 10-2 after its 13-point win over Vanderbilt. With the win, Tennessee has secured its spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff, but it will have to wait to see where it falls after conference championship weekend.
