More should be on the way for the Vols too.

With the regular season all wrapped up for Tennessee and the Vols closing out the season at 8-4, it's now time for Josh Heupel to work on keeping his roster together. However, in addition to Boo Carter, there's now another Vol who is planning to make plays for a different squad next season.

Boo Carter's season comes to an end after Tennessee parts ways

Moments ago, news dropped via CBS' Matt Zenitz that defensive lineman Jamal Wallace has played his last game with Tennessee. That's right, Zenitz is reporting that the 6-3, 313-pounder will enter the transfer portal once it officially opens. Wallace is a Kansas City product who originally signed with the Vols as a member of the 2024 class:

Tennessee DL Jamal Wallace will leave the Vols and enter the transfer portal

Wallace was a 3-star recruit coming out of high school and he never saw extensive action in the rotation up front. This season for Tennessee, the youngster posted four total tackles, with two of them being solo ones.

Last season for Heupel, Wallace also didn't see the field much, recording three total tackles. Losing Wallace to the portal isn't a major shock, as he was buried a bit on the depth chart. However, fans are now going to be waiting to see if other players join him in leaving Knoxville to play elsewhere.

Despite Wallace not making a huge impact during his two seasons with the SEC side, there's no question that he has potential. On top of that, it's always rough news for Heupel when a player he and the staff invested time into decide they want to get a fresh start with a new program.

Come January, we should find out where Wallace will be headed next and the same can be said for Carter. There are other Tennessee players who have been speculated to transfer as well, which will be something for people to follow closely. The hope is that Heupel won't lose a large number of guys, as UT is already focused on trying to get to the CFP come next season.
