A big Tennessee recruiting weekend has gotten even bigger. The Vols hosted a plethora of big-time targets in Knoxville over the weekend, and Tennessee has already landed three commits, with momentum continuing to build. Of all the big-time targets in Knoxville, however, none stood out more than five-star running back David Gabriel Georges.

Josh Heupel keeps a prized 4-star tight end home with a big recruiting win

The Vols have made the Chattanooga tailback their top priority in the 2027 class, and things are really starting to heat up. Ohio State was the primary leader in the Gabriel Georges recruitment, but Tennessee may have just flipped the script with the latest update.

After the visit, Rivals' Chad Simmons said, "If Signing Day was today, Heupel’s program would be my pick."

This is absolutely massive.

Tennessee is now the leader for David Gabriel Georges

Coming out of a recruiting weekend with a ton of top targets, this is exactly what you want to see. Gabriel Georges felt the love as Tennessee laid out the red carpet for him. The Vols made a strong surge to the top with their long-lasting relationship and by bringing in former players like Alvin Kamara to recruit the elite tailback. Throwing everything they had at Gabriel Georges seems to have really paid off.

If Tennessee can pull this off, it completely changes the trajectory of the Vols’ offense. David Gabriel Georges looks like a future early-round NFL Draft pick. He has the perfect blend of speed, power, vision, and burst. He’s a running back built in lab, and with Heupel’s proven development of running backs, it’s a win-win for both parties if Tennessee can land him.

Nevertheless, don’t rule out the possibility of Ohio State getting back into this race. They are one of the most aggressive teams when it comes to recruiting, and with their track record of producing offensive stars, they won’t go down without throwing more haymakers at Tennessee. You always have to keep an eye on the Buckeyes.

Understandably, both teams want a chance to get Gabriel Georges in their backfield. He still has visits left to Georgia and Ole Miss, who are perceived as non-threats to Tennessee, but anything can happen in the wild west era of college football.

It’s still early, but Heupel needs to focus on trying to close the deal ahead of his July commitment date. If Tennessee can seal things up and get Gabriel Georges a part of the class, the future of the Vols’ offense with Faizon Brandon, Gabriel Georges, TK Keys, and others looks dangerous.
