The NCAA transfer portal is set to close on Dec. 28, meaning some last-minute decisions are on the way for players looking to potentially suit up for different programs. On Thursday morning, some unexpected news came in for the Tennessee football team.
That news is that backup signal-caller Gaston Moore will be taking his talents elsewhere. According to insider Matt Zenitz, Moore has decided that he'll be entering the transfer portal. Moore played in five games this campaign, mostly late in the action.
Tennessee QB Gaston Moore has entered the transfer portal
Moore originally signed with UCF out of high school, but then he joined Tennessee in 2021. In total, he spent four seasons with the Vols, but he has one more season of eligibility remaining. Had Moore returned to Knoxville, he would have backed up Nico Iamaleava again.
Come 2025, Moore is going to look to join a program where he'll have a solid chance at being the starter. This past season for the Vols, Moore tossed for 201 yards and two touchdowns. Most notably, he filled in for Iamaleava in the win over Mississippi State after Nico went down with a head injury.
For his career with the Vols, Moore posted 273 passing yards and his two scores. Things didn't quite go to plan for him with UT, as he followed Heupel from UCF to the SEC program. He'll look to make a decision on his next stop soon, as Moore is now getting ready to join his third squad.
