These dream scenarios for Championship Week could land Tennessee a CFP home game
We know you're probably still a bit ticked off about things, but for now, the Tennessee football team will NOT be hosting a first-round College Football Playoff game. We know, it's a complete and total joke. The Vols had zero business being ranked behind Ohio State, but there's nothing we can do.
While the chances remain slim, there's still a glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe, things can still fall into place for Josh Heupel and Co. to host one more game this campaign at Neyland Stadium. In order for that to happen, two results in particular need to get posted to help out UT.
Here's what Tennessee fans should root for on Saturday
First, Georgia and Texas are going to be dancing in the SEC Championship Game. Right now, Georgia is projected to be the No. 7 seed, but should Texas go on to dominate and post a lopsided win over the Bulldogs, would this be enough for Tennessee to jump UGA?
It'd be tough, especially with Georgia taking down Tennessee in the regular season, but you never know. If Georgia completely drops the ball on Saturday and loses by 15-20 points, might it lead to them taking a hit in the rankings?
Elsewhere, people are of course going to be paying close attention to the Big Ten Championship Game as well, with Penn State and Oregon getting ready for battle. In similar fashion, Tennessee should be hoping Oregon lays the smack down on the Nittany Lions.
Should Penn State get destroyed by Oregon, it could be enough for them to take a bit of a tumble in the CFP rankings too. If Penn State and Georgia both win, though, then it will wipe away any hope for UT to play another game in Knoxville in 2024. Never say never, but the Vols need a lot of help here to make that happen.
