Two of the biggest, if not the biggest, recruits since Josh Heupel has been in Knoxville came into the class of 2026 when he landed wide receiver Tristen (TK) Keys and quarterback Faizon Brandon. Both were five-star recruits and will make an already strong Tennesse offense even stronger with their firepower.

Spring practice gave us our first real look at this quarterback, wide receiver combo together, and it didn’t disappoint. Brandon connected with Keys on a deep out route, which is never an easy throw. Keys made a sharp cut and used his hands perfectly to bring in the pass, and got his feet down. All in all, it was great to see on day two, and Heupel, as well as Vols fans, have plenty to be excited about as this duo continues to develop over the offseason.

Faizon Brandon and TK Keys could both start for Tennessee

The one thing that makes this combo building a connection early on good too is that both star freshmen have a chance to start from day one. Right now, we have a quarterback competition on our hands between George MacIntyre, Brandon, and Ryan Staub. MacIntyre and Brandon are likely in the lead, with the veteran Staub a step behind in third. It wouldn't be a surprise if the Vols trotted out a true freshman in Week One against Furman. Brandon is that special.

On the other hand, the wide receiver room is wide open when it comes to the third spot. SEC Freshman of the Year Braylon Staley has one role locked down, and Mike Matthews has the other. After that, it’s anyone’s game for who earns the third spot. One thing that bodes well for Keys is he can line up in the slot and on the outside. He offers some scheme versatility on where he lines up, so that is always a plus. Even if he doesn't get the third spot, I wouldn't be shocked to see him get some reps as a second-teamer.

All of this sets the stage for Tennessee having a very bright future behind a pair of offensive stars, and I cannot wait.
