Tennessee baseball has started the season 10-0 after suffering a lot of turnover after last year's national championship team. Tony Vitello had to retool his roster through traditional recruiting and the transfer portal and may have created an even better roster than last year.
Vitello has put together a group of dominant pitchers and hitters that are clicking on all levels, and it has left Vitello clueless about how that happened so fast.
He recognized that last year's team had been together for a while, and everything clicked to put together a special season, but many of these guys are new to Tennessee or new to each other.
That hasn't stopped the guys from connecting and clicking in their short time together, whether it be freshmen, JUCO players, guys coming from P4 programs, or returning players.
"I don't know because last year made sense," Vitello said postgame. "We had a group that had been together for a long time ... this is different. You have three different baskets [returning players, portal players, and high school guys] and they have been low maintenance.
"It's up to them to realize it's pretty good right now but it is going to need to get better as the season goes on. For now, they've done it. It's just a bunch of guys that have a similar goal."

Based on their performance on the field, this group has quickly developed a connection and team chemistry. They are playing like the best team in the country very early in the year and have not disappointed through the first ten games of the year.
That includes an impressive showing in the Astros Foundation College Classic. Tennessee won the first two games of their three-game series in Houston, beating No. 16 Oklahoma State and Rice by a combined 18-5.
Tennessee plays its second-ranked opponent of the weekend on Sunday, with No. 24 Arizona on the schedule. The game is scheduled to begin with the first pitch at 11:05 PM ET.
