Tony Vitello takes a shot at rival of Peyton Manning
Tennessee baseball is preparing to get its season underway with some Fall baseball. Tennessee will kick off its Fall baseball schedule in Nashville on Friday night against Western Kentucky.
Tony Vitello broke through Tennessee's struggle in Omaha and found success in the College World Series this past season. Tennessee went on to win the National Championship, and now Vitello takes the podium to answer questions after a summer of celebration.
One of the topics of question was about leadership on Vitello's roster. Tennessee had its captain and best player, Christian Moore, leave for professional baseball with a handful of other Vols, so Tennessee will have to look at its roster to find new leaders.
"I think for this fall, we want some leaders to emerge, and that doesn't mean like the captain like a Peyton Manning or a Tom Brady. I guess I should just say Peyton – to hell with Tom Brady," Vitello said jokingly.
Vitello has proven he's pretty good on the baseball field, and it looks like he's starting to figure out everything else he needs to be successful, specifically on Rocky Top. Despite past concerns that he might leave Tennessee, Tony V continues to be all Vols.
Tennessee will likely look to rely on a few key returning players like Ariel Antigua, Cannon Peebles, Nate Snead, and Hunter Ensley, but it will also have to rely on younger players on the roster or transfer players like Liam Doyle, Andrew Fischer, Tanner Franklin, and Gavin Kilen.
The reigning National Champions will continue their Fall games across the Volunteer State throughout the weekend. After the Vols' Friday night game in Nashville, they will head to Jackson to play Troy on Sunday, October 27.
