Tennessee has been working hard on the class of 2027, as the Vols just made the top list for a talented lineman in Terrance Smith. The staff has been reaching out to their plan A targets, looking to get official visits scheduled for this summer.
Many Vols fans are familiar with running back David Gabriel Georges, but another tailback, Brandon, Mississippi product Tyson Robinson, is very high on Josh Heupel and staff. He is a 5-foot-9, 200-pound back who is rated the No. 73 overall player in the class of 2027 by the 247Sports composite.
It was just announced today that Robinson will head down to Knoxville on June 19th to take an official visit, marking him one of the first prospects to announce their intentions to officially visit this summer.

Tyson Robinson is an absolute beast
Sure, would many Vols fans like to land in-state five-star David Gabriel Georges? Most definitely. But if the Vols were able to land Robinson, Tennessee would be in great shape. Robinson is an elusive back who can make defenders miss in open space. An advanced skill he has is his ability to catch passes out of the backfield, something a lot of young tailbacks struggle with. He posted an insane stat line in 2024: 76 carries for 1,295 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Not to mention, Robinson has a stacked offer list, too. Michigan, Miami, Oregon, Ohio State, Texas A&M, and plenty more have thrown their name in the mix for the blue-chip running back. Tennessee were to land Robisnon over Gabriel Georges, they would still be getting a stud, no doubt.
In modern backfields, having two backs is needed, anyway, so having one shouldn't negatively impact the other. Indiana did it with Roman Hemby and Kaelon Black, as Hemby had 230 carries and Black had 186. Penn State had Nic Singleton and Kaytron Allen sharing carries as well. There is an open backfield after DeSean Bishop is likely to leave after next season.
All in all, Heupel and his staff have a busy summer ahead, with official visit season quickly approaching. The Vols will look to replicate the success they had in the 2026 recruiting cycle as they continue building momentum on the trail.
