Turnovers and mistakes “just make [the loss] hard and frustrating” for Vols

Tennessee's offense had a chance to put Oklahoma away in the first half, but couldn't execute when they needed to put points on the board.

Instead, a fumble that led to an Oklahoma touchdown and a couple of interceptions that added more points for the Sooners kept the game close and allowed them to take the lead. The failed attempts to score resulted in a frustrating 33-27 loss for the Vols.

Joey Aguilar talked about the frustration that led to those mistakes and how they affect the feeling after a close loss.

"Especially on my part, turned the ball over three times," Aguilar said postgame. "The strip sack and two interceptions. To know those mistakes—just reading the defense and getting to the next read — for me personally, obviously, hurts a lot.

"Put my team in a better position to put up points, and the defense gave us turnovers, and offensively, we didn't execute on those. To go back and see those mistakes that I can clean up just makes it hard and frustrating, but you just have to watch it and flush it."

Aguilar said the Sooners' defense didn't show the Vols anything new; the offense just couldn't execute when it came time to move the ball and put points on the board.

"They didn't do anything I didn't expect," Aguilar continues. "We prepared for everything. They just did a great job, as they do, attacking the quarterback, bringing pressure, and trying to make us make quick reads."

Now the Vols will turn to their next game against New Mexico State. This game will be Tennessee's Salute to Service game, and Aguilar is ready to refocus on the Aggies and continue fighting to finish the year.

"Just keep fighting. We're blessed to have three more games. Just got to take it week-by-week. College football is crazy. Our next focus is our next opponent."
