Right now, Tennessee Vols basketball coach Rick Barnes may be the luckiest man on the planet. Not only did the No. 5 Vols take down No. 6 Alabama on Saturday in thrilling fashion, but Barnes actually almost ruined one of the best moments of the season across all of college hoops.
Confused? As time was about to expire, Jahmai Mashack got the in-bounds pass, sprinted down the court and fired off a deep 3-pointer that somehow found the bottom of the net. Ball game, Tennessee won and Mashack was the hero for UT.
However, as Mashack crossed mid-court, Barnes was furiously trying to call a timeout and as the ball was in mid-air, he ripped into an official for not stopping play. We now know it was a blessing in disguise that no timeout was called, as Mashack delivered with an incredible moment:
Rick Barnes not looking at the shot because he's absolutely losing his mind at the official who didn't give him the timeout call is pure magic.

Even as the celebration started, he was still going at him.

Rick Barnes tried calling a timeout before Jahmai Mashack drilled his buzzer-beater
While meeting with the press, Barnes admitted that he was trying to call a timeout and he didn't even see the shot go in. He realized what had happened when the crowd went nuts. Come on, that's just too funny right there. Barnes went from livid to elated in a split second.
This was also such an awesome moment for Mashack. With the game on the line, it's safe to assume that the ball is going to normally go to either Chaz Lanier or Zakai Zeigler. Instead, Mashack was there ready to deliver for Barnes and his teammates. It's truly a special feeling for the young man.
Not only that, but it came in a victory over an SEC rival in Alabama, ranked No. 6 in the country. This win could end up paving the way for Tennessee earning its first No. 1 seed in program history for the upcoming NCAA Tournament. Should that be the case, we can look back at Mashack's 3-pointer as a big reason why - Barnes will also be thankful no timeout was called.
