He was only with the Tennessee baseball team for a single season, but goodness, Liam Doyle meant so much to the program. The left-handed ace was downright dominant for the Vols and Tony Vitello, cementing himself as one of the best pitchers in the country.
This is something plenty of clubs took notice of leading up to the 2025 MLB Draft. On Sunday night, the MLB dreams came true for Doyle, with the St. Louis Cardinals taking him with the No. 5 overall pick. Previously, there was belief that Doyle would hear his name called a little earlier.
Despite that, being a Top 5 pick is still an unreal honor and it's something that Doyle is never going to take for granted. Just go ahead and watch the video below to see exactly what this moment means not only to him, but his entire family. This is just awesome:

Liam Doyle and his family were overcome with emotion after he was drafted by St. Louis
The tears were flying and understandably so. When Doyle transferred in from Ole Miss, the expectations were high for him in 2025. However, he surely exceeded expectations, making hitters look silly from start to finish this past campaign.
Doyle has become the highest-drafted Vol for anyone who has played under head man Tony Vitello - that's another honor for the future MLB standout. Doyle was also one of four Vols who was selected in the first round. Those four first-round picks for UT are a new program record.
He was joined by Gavin Kilen, Marcus Phillips and Andrew Fischer. Think this is going to help Vitello out with recruiting in the future? There's no question it will. As for Doyle, he wasn't in Knoxville for long, but he won over countless fans because of his passion for the game and the Vols. Now, countless people are going to be ready to follow his career in the NL Central. He's going to be a stud, no doubt about that.
