Tennessee baseball has put together a great transfer portal recruiting class after a disappointing end to the season, which ended in the Fayetteville Super Regional, a couple of wins shy of another trip to the men's College World Series.
The disappointing end to the season isn't keeping some of the top transfer portal prospects away from the Vols, though.
Tennessee has seven players committed in this year's transfer portal class, including Virginia outfielder Henry Ford, the transfer portal's No. 1 player, and now the JUCO Player of the Year Tyler Myatt.
Myatt led Walters State to a 59-8-1 record and to the JUCO World Series Championship, where they lost 9-6 to Salt Lake Community College.
On his way to earning JUCO Player of the Year, Myatt hit .484 with 31 home runs and 110 RBIs throughout 66 games this season, breaking Walters State's program record for home runs and RBIs in a single season.
Myatt committed to Tennessee on June 3 but recently was named JUCO Player of the Year, bolstering the Vols' portal recruiting class. Along with being one of the best hitters in JUCO baseball, he can also play second base and outfield for the Vols, depending on team needs next season.
He is draft-eligible, so he could choose to pursue professional baseball after a dominant season for Walters State.
Myatt, along with multiple other Tennessee transfer and high school commits, is draft eligible, making the 2025 MLB Draft a massive event that could determine the outlook for Tennessee baseball over the next couple of seasons.
Tennessee could add a couple more players out of the transfer portal before the 2025 recruiting class is set. California infielder Jarren Advincula and Rutgers RHP Landon Mack have visited Tennessee since the end of the season, but neither have made a transfer decision.
The Vols are also targeting another two-way player to pair with Bowling Green's two-way star, DJ Newman. Rice two-way freshman Blaine Brown, who pitches and plays outfield, has also visited Tennessee but will wait to make a decision until he gets on Oklahoma and Georgia's campus.
Ball State infielder Dylan Grego and Wake Forest outfielder Ethan Conrad are a couple of other targets Tennessee is looking at, but neither has visited campus yet. They could look to make the move to professional baseball after the 2025 draft.
The 2025 MLB Draft will be held during All-Star Weekend, July 13-14, in Atlanta, Georgia, this year. Tennessee has several draft-eligible players, commits, and prospects, so the draft could change the outlook for the next couple of seasons.
