The dream season keeps going for the Tennessee Vols basketball team! You just had a feeling it was written in the stars for UT to take down Kentucky on Friday night, as this team wasn't going to let an 0-3 season vs. the Wildcats get posted. Instead, a 78-65 victory arrived in the Sweet Sixteen.
Tennessee is headed to the Elite Eight, and it will play either Houston or Purdue. This was a full team effort, as every single guy who suited up and hit the hardwood made a difference. As has been the case for most of the season, though, we've got to give special props to Zakai Zeigler.
In the victory, Zeigler was once again tremendous, scoring 18 points and adding 10 assists. In the first half, not long into the action, Zeigler made some history, becoming the new single-season SEC leader for assists. It came on an epic alley-oop to big man Felix Okpara too.

Zakai Zeigler set the new SEC single-season record for assists in win over Kentucky
This was a game Tennessee dominated from start to finish. At one point in the first half, the Vols were up by as many as 19 points. Going into halftime, Tennessee was up 43-28 and they were able to keep tight defense going on Kentucky, which couldn't quite get over the hump to close the gap.
Rick Barnes coached up a masterclass here. The Wildcats couldn't get into any kind of a rhythm, with the pressure clearly getting to the Kentucky players. Koby Brea entered the showdown with the Vols riding high after scoring 23 points vs. Illinois in the second round - he was held to five points in this one.
Another key difference-maker for the Vols? Of course Chaz Lanier was solid, finishing with 17 points. However, let's also give a proverbial applause to Jordan Gainey, who pitched in with 16 points, knocking down some big-time shots and a thunderous dunk everyone inside of Lucas Oil Stadium wearing orange loved to see.
All in all, it was a convincing performance from Tennessee and one that should remind a lot of people that this group has what it takes to push for a national title. There's going to be a mountain to climb against either Purdue or Houston, but Zeigler will be ready to lead his teammates to battle. Tennessee is hoping to play in three more games. They have what it takes to reach that goal.
