Former Vols: Miami Fans Need To Cut Dallas Thomas Some Slack
By Zach Ragan
If you do a quick Twitter search of Dallas Thomas, you’ll come up with a slew of tweets from Miami Dolphins fans that don’t have very nice things to say about the former Vols offensive lineman.
Dolphins fans are quick to remember that Thomas didn’t fare too well at right tackle last season. Because of that, most Miami fans don’t want Thomas as one of the team’s starting guards.
That line of thinking was recently compounded by Dolphins beat writer Armando Salguero, who had this to say about Thomas:
"Instead the Dolphins campaigned (hard) during the NFL owners meetings that Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner are penciled in as their starting guards for now. Please, Lord Jesus, not Dallas Thomas."
Not exactly a glowing endorsement.
But fans that are more than the casual observer probably realize that Thomas actually played pretty well at guard last season for the Dolphins, he was just terrible when he played at right tackle — out of position.
This is something that Dolphins beat writer Omar Kelly (a noted critic of former Vol players) noticed. Kelly actually (for once) defended a former UT player.
Kudos Omar Kelly for not letting players like Jason Allen dictate how you feel about Dallas Thomas anymore.
Thomas proved at Tennessee that he’s a solid offensive lineman and he’s quite capable of being a starter in the NFL.
Let the man play his position before you pass judgement.
