Fans of the Tennessee Volunteers are quickly growing accustomed to waking up to good news.
Sunday was no different.
The Vol’s coaching staff started tweeting hints of a commitment this morning and it wasn’t long before it was clear that Brandon Powell had committed to Tennessee.
Powell is rated by 247Sports as a three-star ATH. The Deerfield Beach, FL (Deerfield Beech) native stands 5’10” and weighs in at 171 lbs.
Auburn was considered the heavy favorite to land Powell.
As enamored as Powell was with Auburn, apparently the Vols blew him away during his time there on Saturday, which is just another testament to what Butch Jones is doing at Tennessee.
Tennessee wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni seemed particularly excited by Powell’s commitment, which could be a sign of his future position in college.
Aside from Auburn and Tennessee, Powell also held offers from: California, Georgia Tech, LSU, NC State, North Carolina, Wake Forest and West Virginia, among others.
Powell becomes the second straight Florida player to commit to the Vols (2015 linebacker Cecil Cherry being the other). Winning in the state of Florida is huge for the Vols. These last two commitments should erase any doubt that fans had about Jones’ ability to recruit Florida.
