Don’t let the three-star rating fool you, Austin Smith was (and still is) a highly coveted linebacker recruit. The Georgia native holds notable offers from Florida, LSU, Miami and South Carolina, among several others.
Smith, who projects as an outside-linebacker will fill a huge need for the Vols — speed on the edge.
Tennessee struggled mightily against mobile quarterbacks in 2013 and their lack of speed on the outside was readily evident.
Austin Smith will help to remedy that lack of outside speed, while also adding depth to the Vols’ linebackers group.
Smith isn’t the sexiest name in the 2015 recruiting class, but he’s a guy that could have a big impact in 2015 and beyond for the Tennessee Volunteers.
