Former Vol Jacques Smith Signed To Falcons’ Practice Squad

Former Vol Jacques Smith, who was among the Atlanta Falcons’ last wave of cuts on Saturday, was signed to the Atlanta practice squad on Sunday.

Smith went undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft, but was picked up by the Falcons shortly after. The former Vol made headlines when he was involved in a training camp fight that was documented on HBO’s “Hard Knocks”.

The bad publicity didn’t stop there for Smith, as he was fined after he threw a punch at Tennessee Titans rookie Taylor Lewan during a preseason game.

While I don’t think the punch and training camp fights were the reason for Smith failing to make the 53-man roster, it certainly didn’t help. That’s not the type of attention you want to receive if you’re fighting for a roster spot.

Smith’s collegiate teammate, offensive lineman James Stone, did end up making the Falcons’ 53-man roster.
