Former Vol Austin Johnson Placed On IR By Saints
By Zach Ragan
On Wednesday, the New Orleans Saints placed fullback Austin Johnson on IR, ending his 2014 season.
Johnson is a former Tennessee Volunteer that played linebacker during his time on Rocky Top.
The Hickory, NC native was a fullback during his first two seasons at Tennessee, before moving to linebacker for his junior and senior seasons.
Johnson started all 12 games at linebacker during his senior season, accounting for 81 total tackles and one sack.
The former Vol spent the first two years of his career on the practice squad of the Baltimore Ravens and the New Orleans Saints.
Johnson was promoted to the active roster for the 2014 season and had 8 carries for 22 yards. He also had 2 catches for 15 yards, including a touchdown reception against the Detroit Lions.
It’s a tough break for Johnson, who finally got his opportunity this season and was making the most of it. He’ll look to get healthy and return to being a contributor in 2015.
