Vols Recruiting: Kyle Phillips Sets Announcement Date

One of the Vols’ top remaining targets, four-star defensive end Kyle Phillips, set his announcement date on Monday.

Phillips, 6’4″/250 lbs from Nashville, TN (Hillsboro), is rated by 247Sports as the third best 2015 player in the state of Tennessee and the seventh best 2015 strong-side defensive end in the nation. He’ll be choosing between LSU, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Phillips would be a huge get for the Volunteers, especially after 2015 in-state defensive end Dylan Jackson decommitted on Monday.

The Vols went from having one of the worst defensive lines in the SEC in 2013, to having one of the best in 2014. The addition of stud true freshman Derek Barnett, and the move of Curt Maggitt to defensive end, helped facilitate great improvements along Tennessee’s defensive line.

But there’s always room for improvement. Phillips would give the Vols another feared pass rusher, as well as give Butch Jones and his defensive staff some much needed depth.

The Vols are the likely frontrunners for Phillips right now, but you can’t rule out LSU and Ole Miss just yet.
